News for the Week of September 6-11
I hope you are enjoying your Labor Day Weekend. Isn't is great that we celebrate how hard we work by taking a day off? While the weekend weather has been quite hot, it seems we are heading for a cooling off as we begin to say goodbye to summer.
On Friday we held a brief assembly with our students. I reminded them of several items, including:
Showing respect for one another and our staff is the most important expectation that we have for our students.
Students can and will be held resposible for inapppropriate messages sent through cell phones or on the internet (i.e., e-mail, Facebook, etc.) if I feel they have a negative impact on our school environment.
I reminded students they may not use their cell phone in the building during the school day. If they are caught using their phone or it goes off, they must give it to a staff member (they are showing disrespect if they argue or attempt to keep their phone when asked).
We split the students up (boys and girls) and reminded them of our dress code. We feel several students have worn clothing that is inappropriate for school. For girls, their shorts cannot be too short and their tops must be appropriate. Boys were reminded they cannot sag. T-shirts for all students must not have any inappropriate messages- this includes any references to alcohol or negative groups (i.e., the Insane Clown Posse). We also do not want our students to wear the "I love boobies" wrist bands. While these bands do support a very worthy cause (a cure for breast cancer), we feel there are more appropriate ways to express that support. Please discuss these items with your students.
One other item I discussed with students is our behavior at sporting events. I have high expectations for sportsmanship, and I want our students to show respect for themselves, our opponents, and the officials. On Friday night at the football game, I was very impressed by how our students acted. We do allow Strasburg High School students only to sit in the end zone if they donate an extra dollar to the Denver Rescue Mission. All of these students were outstanding in their behavior and supported our team very well. Next Friday I expect the same type of respectful behavior, especially since we are playing one of our rivals- Bennett.
This week we have several events to bring to your attention:
Tuesday, 9/7- 4:00pm- JV Football @ Platte Canyon; 4:30pm- Volleyball home vs. Lyons.
Wednesday, 9/8- By 11:00am we will have established our first ineligible list for this semester. The first time in a nine week period that a student has two grades below a C, he/she is placed on a warning list (this was established last week for the first time). The second time he/she has two grades below a C, he/she is on the ineligible list for a week and remains on the list until he/she pulls their grades up. If they are on the list they are not able to participate in extra-curricular activities for the week and must attend Saturday School from 8-11am. The only way to avoid Saturday School is to spend at least 90 minutes working with teachers before/after school or at lunch to improve their grades.
7:00pm- Board Meeting.
Thursday, 9/9- 11:00am- Students place ring orders through Herff-Jones.
Friday, 9/10- Softball @ Berthoud Tourney; 7:00pm- Varsity Football home vs. Bennett.
Saturday, 9/11- Softball @ Berthoud Tourney, con't; Volleyball @ Ft. Morgan Tourney; 9:00am- Cross Country @ Lyons.
Have a great week,
Jeff Rasp, Principal
Strasburg High School
