Welcome, and thank you for choosing to find out a little about me.
I was born in Colorado, and come from a large mixed family. I have 5 siblings that I enjoy spending time with and who have also started families of their own. When I was growing up I always wanted to be a veterinarian, but could never figure out how I was going to “hurt” the animals to make them better (I didn’t have the stomach for surgery or euthanasia). I started talking to my family members and someone suggested helping children, by being a teacher. I had some mixed experiences with teachers though out my K-12 education and decided if I could be a positive influence in a child’s life and help them be successful (and not have one of the teachers that made my education so difficult) I would see what this teaching thing was all about. I began by talking to the numerous teachers that are in our family as will at working as a peer counselor in the neighboring elementary school during the last two years of high school.
I had found my calling! I continued to work with children in the school setting for the remaining two years of my high school career, and searched for the school that would allow me that continued contact in the classroom. I found that school in Hays Kansas, and graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1998. I returned to Colorado and the KinderCare that I was working at during the summers and took over the Kindergarten program for the next 7 months. After which I searched for the school district that would become my new home as I substituted in Jefferson and Douglas County school districts.
I joined Strasburg in 2000, coming on as part of the fourth grade team. I am blessed to have a career in which I wake up every morning and love to go to work. I am also supported with by amazing family. My husband Brian and I were expanded our family with a bouncing baby boy in 2010, that has brightened both of our lives.
I look forward to all of the wonderful lessons that I learn this year. I am excited to work with all of the bright individuals that will be a part of our team (children, parents, family members and teachers), and each day being an adventure. I know that you as a parent have sent me your very best, and I am truly blessed to work with you to enrich your child’s future. Thank you for allowing me to be such a positive impact and important part of your child’s future. I look forward to us working together to achieve greatness with your child this year.
